Shillong, Jul 27: Marbisu successfully battled past Wahingdoh in the First Division with a 3-2 victory here today.
Marbisu appeared to have the game in the bag early on as they scored twice in quick succession through Wanpynshngain Nongsteng (13′) and Kendy Dkhar (15′).
However, they then proceeded to let their opponents back into the game by conceding a penalty around a quarter of the way through the match and this was converted by Zothanpuia Bawitlung in the 23rd minute.
Wahingdoh then went into the lemon break on even terms after managing to bag the equaliser just before the half time whistle when an innocuous-looking free-kick clipped the head of Wilson Hynniewta and zipped into the back of the net.
The second half saw Wahingdoh start strong, but then fade from around the hour mark. Their defence was particularly vulnerable and Marbisu should have scored quite a few more goals. For their part, Wahingdoh couldn’t make any headway in the second half against their opponents and didn’t even have a shot on target in the last 30 minutes.
The winning goal then arrived in the 69th minute with Wanshan Kurbah heading in a ball that was headed his way by a team mate from close range.
