Shillong, Aug 2: A second half hat-trick from Wanlambha Kharpran (pictured in white) gave Nongkrem a 4-1 victory over Wahingdoh in the First Division here today, which is Nongkrem’s maiden win of the season. This was also the first hat-trick in this tournament this season.
It was actually Wahingdoh that took the lead in the 18th minute when Mostone Mawlong tapped in a cross from the right flank after a penetrating move forward by his team mates.
As it happens only too often, Nongkrem struck right back two minutes later when Wahingdoh conceded a free-kick on the edge of their penalty box.
The kick looked to have clipped the crossbar after touching the gloves of Wahingdoh goalkeeper Maverick Nongkhlaw and the ball hung tantalisingly close to the goal line while still in play. So, in slid Shanbok Nongsiej to get the ball over the line for the equaliser.
TSR couldn’t stay for the second half, but it looked to have been a terrific spell of 45 minutes for Kharpran, who scored first in the 59th minute before producing a quick double in the 90th and 90+2 for his triple.
After almost a full three rounds Wahingdoh (1D, 2L) remain one of three teams yet to have won this year, along with Laban (2D, 1L) and Sohryngkham (1D, 2L).
Tomorrow the Shillong Premier League will be back when Meghalaya Police take on Rangdajied United at 4PM.
