Shillong, Jan 21: Meghalaya took a first innings lead of 83 runs on the first day of their U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy plate group match against Sikkim at the MCA Cricket Ground here today.

Meghalaya won the toss and chose to bat first, but found it a little difficult on a sunny morning. Two early wickets were claimed by the visitors before Manibhusan Thakur (15) and Hrithik Sharma (24) put on 39 for the third wicket.

However, the real hero of the day was captain Raghav Kapur, who struck an unbeaten 91 off just 104 deliveries, with 15 fours to his credit. However, Kapur could not reach his century as he ran out of batting partners. Ankit Kumar Singh also made a useful 35 for Meghalaya, who were bowled out for 192.

The hosts were able to take the first innings lead thanks to the bowling of Bipin, who claimed an impressive 6/32 with the ball. Abhishek, meanwhile, took 3/14 and Aryan 1/44 as Sikkim were dismissed for just 109.

Stumps were called at the end of Sikkim’s innings.
