Shillong, Apr 8: Shillong, or the Khasi Hills (we’re not sure how far the label extends), has the tag of being the ‘Scotland of the East’. But there was an interesting football story to emerge out of the original Scotland over out there in the West the other day.
It was during a game between Fort William FC and Nairn County FC in the Highland League. The start of the game was delayed due to a waterlogged pitch (sounds familiar, eh, Shillongites?) but also because of deer excrement (!) on the turf at Claggan Park. Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t the home team who tweeted about the delay.
The match eventually got underway and TSR says give the person whose job it was to clear up the poo a medal.
Hosts Fort William lost 6-2 to Nairn County.
There’s another interesting thing about Fort William. They have lost all 31 of their matches this season and have negative points. Yes, negative! That’s because they were penalised nine points by the football authorities for fielding an ineligible player in three matches. So, they’ve got -7 points right now after drawing two and losing 29 games. They’ve also scored 19 goals and conceded – wait for it – 227.
