Shillong, May 4: Heavy rains and high speed winds brought about by Cyclone Fani forced the abandonment of Shillong Lajong’s last zonal match in the Junior League here today.

The game was declared as a draw with Lajong and Gauhati Town Club sharing a point each. The match was of little consequence for Lajong, who had already qualified for the final round of the competition after winning their previous fixture.

SLFC finished with four wins and two draws, giving them 14 points and top spot in the table. Numaligarh Refinery Limited Football Academy and Gauhati TC both finished on 10 points each, but NRL had head-to-head advantage as well as a better goal difference and took second place. NorthEast United finished last after losing all six of their matches.

Lajong will join 15 other teams in the final round. The 16 will be divided into four groups and the eventual group champions will qualify for the semifinals of the Junior League. The single-leg league round is scheduled to be held at the Barrackpore Stadium and Kalyani Stadium in West Bengal between 20th and 25th May.
