Shillong, Jul 27: Shillong Lajong extended their dominant run over Rangdajied United by winning the final of the U-18 Shillong Premier League 1-0 at the JN Stadium here today.
Sangti Janai Shianglong scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute when, after some frantic action in the Rangdajied box, the ball fell to him and he played it to the far post, hitting the woodwork but going in.
Lajong had a couple of chances earlier on, but after they scored the goal it was pretty much a Rangdajied show, although they weren’t able to convert solid chances.
SLFC goalkeeper Urbanity Makhroh made a slight fumble that almost cost his side a goal in the first half, but two very impressive diving efforts in the second 45 minutes more than made up for that.
The match then sort of fizzled out towards the end, with Rangdajied too wayward to trouble Lajong.
The Lajong players will have been thrilled, however, and they kept intact their unbeaten record – they didn’t lose any of their 12 games, of which they won 11, and they were clearly the best team throughout the season.
At the prize distribution ceremony Lajong were awarded the winners’ trophy and Rs 40,000, with Rs 25,000 going to RUFC.
