Shillong, Sep 28: Noted Meghalaya kickboxer Hameshaniah Suiam won gold at the 10th Diamond Kickboxing World Cup in Russia, beating a fighter from Iraq for the top spot.

Suiam claimed gold in the 57kg point fighting event with a score of 21-12. He also took silver in the light contact event.

The World Cup began on 24th September and will conclude tomorrow, Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association Honorary Working President Lorenzo Warjri said.

Suiam, who hails from Shangpung, rose as high as number 28 in the world back in 2017, but has seen his ranking slip a bit, though he’s still in the top 50. His ranking wasn’t helped last year when he couldn’t secure funding in time to take part in the 9th Diamond World Cup.
