Shillong, Feb 7: TheĀ  Shillong Cricket League season got underway at the North East Police Academy ground today, with NEPA Director Deepal Kumar as the chief guest.

Two matches were played today, with Golflinks XI defeating Sales XI by five wickets and Metallica CC beating Cluster CC by 40 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Sales XI won the toss in the first game and were bowled out for 129 in 19.3 overs, with Rohit Barua top-scoring with 36 and Pinku Deb just behind on 35. Prem Mahato (4/17) and Azhar Sheikh (4/18) were the most successful bowlers for Golflinks.

In the chase man-of-the-match Ankit Singh Rathor made a quick 66 off 46 deliveries (six sixes and seven fours), with Pritam Singh contributing 24 off 13. Ayan Deb claimed 2/17 in a losing cause.

The second contest saw Metallica win the toss and bat first, amassing 221/8 in 20 overs. Man-of-the-match Uday Sherpa struck 62 off 34 balls, while Adish Shah (42 off 26) and Rajiv Thakuri (40 off 16) also scored quick runs. Mohammad Sameer took 2/27.

In reply Cluster were restricted to 116/9 in 14 overs after rain reduced the number of overs that could be played. Sameer top-scored for Cluster with 29. Metallica’s Rahul Barua bagged 2/25 and the best figures in the match.
