Shillong, Mar 20: The Shillong Cricket Academy will operate from a dedicated space in Lawsohtun, easing the congestion in Shillong’s cricket hub of Polo Ground.
The new SCA facility, made possible with the collaboration of the Dorbar Shnong of Lawsohtun and Lawsohtun SC, was inaugurated yesterday by cabinet minister Hamletson Dohling.
There was a need for a new space for the SCA, which trains dozens of youngsters in the game, as Polo Ground is heavily utilised by the Shillong Cricket Association and Meghalaya Cricket Association.
In this search, Lawsohtun was a frontrunner as the Dorbar and local sports club were keen to attract the SCA. The Director of the SCA, Gideon Kharkongor, thanked the Lawsohtun Dorbar for readily welcoming the SCA, which enabled the shift to the neighbourhood in just a year since talks began.
The SCA has been operating for around a decade and has given Meghalaya several of its young crop of state cricketers.
Others who were present on the occasion included Convener of the BCCI’s North East taskforce Naba Bhattacharjee and Lawsohtun Rangbah Shnong Hariberth Rynjah.
