Shillong, Apr 27: Nongthymmai overturned a one goal deficit to beat Imson 2-1 in the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division at Third Ground, Polo, here today.
This is the first time that any team has come from behind to win in 16 matches of this season’s First Division.
Imson took the lead in the 36th minute via Sunshine Nongbri; this also happened to be the club’s first goal this season.
However, Nongthymmai fought back with an equaliser soon after the second half began thanks to Mohan Gurung (46′) and Iohbor Nonglyer (pictured No. 7) gave Nongthymmai the lead in the 65th minute with a right-booted shot from close range after chesting down a cross.
Nongthymmai remain in second place but now have 12 points and are almost assured of promotion to next season’s Shillong Premier League. Imson, meanwhile, remain sixth out of seven teams.
