Shillong, Apr 30: Lawei went clear at the top of Group B in the Shillong Sports Association’s Women’s League with a 1-0 victory over Maw U-tieng at Third Ground, Polo, here today.
The lone goal was scored by Marola Kharkamni in the 25th minute of the hour-long match. With two wins and a draw, Lawei now have 7 points. Three other teams – Nongkrem, Nongkohlew and Maw U-tieng – are on 4 points each.
In the later fixture, Rahjingshai stormed to an 8-1 victory against Thynroit in Group A. Three scorers bagged a brace of goals for Rahjingshai – Lily L Nongkynrih (26′, 45′), Antisha Nongneng (33′, 53′) and Daaijingsuk Basaiawmoit (43′, 51′). Other goals were scored by Fragrancy Riwan (6′) and Saphidamer Shadap (28′).
Thynroit’s lone goal was through Ibanritngen Nongspung (14′). While Thynroit did slip to their third consecutive defeat, this was at least the first match in which they have scored.
Thynroit sit at the bottom of Group A while Rahjingshai are third on 6 points, one behind leaders Mawlai and Laitkor.
The SSA’s First Division and Women’s League will now not be seen in action until after the Meghalaya Games, which will be held next week.
