Shillong, May 29: Finely Pariat (pictured centre), the Secretary of the Meghalaya Athletics Association and General Secretary of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, has been elected as Associate Vice-President of the Athletics Federation of India.
The AFI is holding its annual general meeting in Chandigarh and Pariat said he was “surprised” to have been chosen for the post.
Pariat, the first person from Meghalaya chosen for such a role, and the others elected were felicitated by AFI Senior Vice-President and athletics icon Anju Bobby George and other dignitaries.
“It’s an honour and privilege for me, coming from a small state, to be recognised at the national level,” Pariat said. “I would thank God almighty for this opportunity, which I didn’t expect. My thanks to the Athletics Federation of India for putting their faith in me and thanks to all my friends who have sent their wishes to me.”
