Shillong, Aug 14: The office of the District Sports Officer of South West Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the district administration, organised a 12km Independence Day Run 2022 yesterday.

Around 300 runners took part, ranging from septuagenarian Kmoin Wahlang to the youngest who was just 5 years old, at the race in Mawkyrwat.

In the men’s category, Hepstarly Lyngkhoi crossed the finish line in 37 minutes, 58 seconds, followed by Welbeststar Ramsiej (38:56) and Iwelljohn Ramsiej (40:03).

Kyntimon Marwein (48:11) won the women’s event, almost two minutes ahead of second-placed Lyntijingkmen Kharjahrin (50:07), who was in turn a minute in front of Marqueenless Ramsiej (51:08).

Winners received Rs 5,000 each and the runners-up Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 for second and third places.
