Shillong, Aug 19: Franklin Sohphoh, a physiotherapist who has worked with some of the state’s football and cricket teams, has passed away.
Last night the Meghalaya Cricket Association informed of Sohphoh’s death through a post on social media.
The MCA expressed its “profound grief on the demise of Franklin Sohphoh, one of the dedicated physiotherapists who have served the state teams so well over the years. Gone too soon but forever in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this time.”
Sohphoh had been the physio for the MCA’s U-19 boys team during the 2021 edition of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and for the Myntdu Lions, who won the inaugural MCA Senior Men Challengers Cup earlier this year.
In football, he also worked in that same role for the Meghalaya team that participated in the U-21 Dr T Ao Football Tournament in early 2019.
However, possibly the biggest highlight of his young life came towards the end of that same year when he was the physio to the Meghalaya side that were the champions of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship.
Many connected to both sports have expressed their condolences, such as MCA Honorary Secretary Gideon Kharkongor, former MCA Honorary Secretary Naba Bhattacharjee, East Khasi Hills Cricket Association President Dister Marbaniang, former East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer Daniel Dan and Ri-Bhoi DSO Bobby L Nongbet, who coached the same Meghalaya team in the U-21 T Ao tournament in 2019.
