Shillong, Mar 11: Lamare FC qualified for the final of the Invitation Knock Out Football Tournament 2022-23 match at New Nongstoin today after beating United SC of Kolkata 2-1 in the second leg of their semifinal.
United, who fielded four foreigners, had to overturn a 1-0 deficit that came about after Lamare claimed the first leg last month but today’s result meant that the Shillong team won 3-1 on aggregate.
The first goal today was scored by Donborlang Nongkynrih in the 27th minute but United made it 1-1 just before half time thanks to Sahil Harijan (45’+5).
A 77th minute goal by Everbrightson Mylliempdah, however, put Lamare in front again and they held on until the final whistle.
Lamare’s Brolington Warlarpih was named Player of the Match. Seven out of the 11 starting players were actually in the Meghalaya Santosh Trophy team that finished as runners-up last week.
Lamare will face Ri-Bhoi United FC in the final on 15th March at 1:30PM. RBU were behind after the first leg of their semi against Assam Regimental Centre but fought back brilliantly in the second leg earlier this week.
