Shillong, May 9: Samuel Lyngdoh Kynshi has signed (or is about to) for new Indian Super League club Punjab FC, it was reported yesterday.
Punjab FC won the I-League 2022-23 and became the first club to secure promotion to the ISL.
Lyngdoh Kynshi had a brilliant I-League this time around, playing in 21 matches for fifth-placed Real Kashmir and scoring six goals, the most he has managed in a single season of the domestic tournament.
The midfielder has been with Kashmir for three seasons now, having joined from Shillong Lajong FC. He had previously scored six goals in the I-League over two seasons for Lajong. In doing so, he became the first footballer from Meghalaya to score five I-League goals for SLFC.
Before last season’s I-League, he was back in Meghalaya where he was part of the Mawlai SC team that won the Shillong Premier League 2021-22 (though he had to leave before the season was completely wrapped up).
Signing for Punjab FC won’t be Lyngdoh Kynshi’s first tryst with an ISL club – he had previously gone on loan to Kerala Blasters but couldn’t break out of the B team. Now with a few more years of experience under his belt, this could be his time to make it big.
