Shillong, May 23: The Riwar Mihngi Football Association’s U-15 League Tournament 2023 concluded on 20th May in Pynursla.
Riwar Mihngi XI won the title 1-0 by defeating Mawprem SC on the day via a penalty by Bantiplang Khongnoh in extra time.
Guests on the day included Meghalaya Football Association Treasurer Wanshan Kharkrang and ex-India footballer Aiborlang Khongjee. The boys’ level of match awareness was enough for Kharkrang to notice when he mentioned the game to TSR on Sunday.
The tournament began in January with eight participating teams. The winners were awarded Rs 10,000 in prize money, with another Rs 7,000 going to the runners-up. The organisers also gave Rs 4,000 to each of the other teams.
Meanwhile, clubs in the Riwar Mihngi area – Pomlum Wahrew, Umsyiem, Nongkwai, Tishang, Nongjri – have been invited to ensure their affiliation with the local association by 20th June as the Riwar Mihngi Football Association’s Football League 2023 will begin in due course.
