Shillong, Jun 2: The 2nd Meghalaya Open Table Tennis Cash Prize Tournament 2023 officially commenced here today, with 72 participants across various categories.
The two-day event was opened by Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah in the presence of Laban SC President Sammy Myrthong, club Vice-President David Laitphlang, Rangbah Shnong Edward Kharwanlang and other dignitaries.
“We have submitted a proposal to the state government to transform Laban Sports Club into the best table tennis academy in the North East,” Myrthong said. “Our aim is to elevate this sport to new heights and establish this venue as a hub for high-altitude practice for national players. With this larger tournament, we are determined to nurture and showcase the finest talents from Meghalaya.”
With a total of 72 participants competing across various categories, the knockout tournament is expected to be a thrilling display of skill and sportsmanship.
The categories include U-15 boys’ singles, men’s doubles, U-19 boys’ singles, veterans’ singles (40 years and above), veterans doubles (40 years and above), men’s singles and women’s singles.
