Shillong, Jun 19: Meghalaya finished third at the India Open International Karate Championship 2023, with five gold, six silver and six bronze medals.

Thirty-one karatekas of the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association travelled to New Delhi for the 17th-18th June tournament. They were led by Donboklang Lyngdoh, Arjun Sewa, Pynhunlang Kharbuli and Sunil Rathee as coaches and managers.

In a press release today, AMKA congratulated all the medallists and officials who took part.

Meghalaya medallists: 
Gold: Daphishisha Shadap (girls’ cadet kumite -53kg), Larisha Kurbah (girls’ junior kumite -59kg), Daphilahun Wahlang (girls’ cadet kumite +54kg), Damebanmerbha S Blah (boys’ junior kumite -50kg), Saralin Rynghang (women’s kumite -50kg)
Silver: Inlumlang Skhemiew (girls’ cadet kumite -40kg), Rebeka Nongspung (women’s kumite -45kg), Bhawanchwadame L Mawphlang (boy’s junior kumite +76kg), Davyson Kharkongor (men’s open kata), Kmenlang Shabong (boys’ junior kumite -50kg), Nangkitbok Phira (men’s kumite -50kg),
Bronze: Davyson Kharkongor (men’s kumite -50kg), Durka Padit (women’s kumite -68kg), Carene Sohiong (women’s kumite -50kg), Garry Daniel L Mawlong (men’s kumite -67kg), Anysha Wahlang (girls’ cadet kumite -47kg), Paul Danny Kharmudai (men’s kumite -60kg)
