Shillong, May 3: Two climbers of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association have been nominated to attend a mountaineering course in Darjeeling to become instructors.

Teimiki Sungoh and Valarie Suchiang, both from Shangpung village in West Jaintia Hills, will attend the Methods of Instruction at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute that began yesterday and which will conclude on 25th May.

The gruelling training that prepares trainees to become instructors is being sponsored by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs.

The pair will gain knowledge of various climbing-related subjects, such as rope distribution, physical training, rock craft, acclimatisation, snow craft, ice craf, height gain and survival night, etc.
