Shillong, May 26: The 1st Football League Tournament 2024, organised by the Smit Area Sports Association, began on Friday at the Krissimai Mini Stadium in Smit.
It’s a big league with 40 teams from the Smit area taking part. The opening match saw Laitkyrhong SC defeat Pomlakrai Rngi Shyllong SC 1-0 with a solitary goal by Ribokstar Rynjah.
The main aim of the tournament is to promote young footballers from the various local villages.
The chief guest at the opening ceremony was the Syiem of Hima Khyrim, Habbapan Singh Syiem. The guest of honour of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Aenam Manik Syiem.
SASA President Johnystar Mawrie, Vice-President Miningstar Mylliemngap, General Secretary Syntem Kamwamut Nengnong, representatives of the Dorbar Shnong of Smit and others were also present on the occasion.
