Shillong, Jul 23: Laitkroh SC and Mawphlang SC both claimed first place in their respective groups of the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2024 by winning their last round robin games at First Ground, Polo here today.
Laitkroh first demolished Mawklot SC in Group D 3-0 before Mawphlang edged Diengpasoh SC 2-1 in Group F.
Lebenstar Nongkynrih (33′, 70’+2) scored a brace for Laitkroh and Bamutlang Kharkongor (39′) one goal as their team finished with three wins and 9 points. Them Rangshken ACC and Pynthorbah SC have 7 points each and head-to-head can’t separate them as their meeting ending in a draw, so Them Rangshken are in front on goal difference.
Later, Mawphlang grabbed the lead through Hame Kharshiing (5′) and then doubled it with an own goal in the 33rd minute. Banpynkmenlang Kharsati, Diengpasoh’s top scorer, scored his fifth goal of the season in the 68th minute but it wasn’t enough.
Mawphlang thus equal Diengpasoh’s tally of 7 points and have head-to-head advantage, which is considered before goal difference between two tied teams.
Unusually, Lummawbah SC are the one unbeaten team in the group but they drew three of their matches and only won one, which leaves them in third with 6 points.
Tomorrow will see the final two group fixtures played.
