Shillong, Aug 22: The Durand Cup 2024 organisers announced today that the semifinal between NorthEast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC has been moved from Kolkata and will be held at the JN Stadium here on 26th August. Kick-off will be at 5:30PM.
In a statement, the organisers said that the decision to change the venue was taken in light of the results of the quarterfinal matches held yesterday, with Lajong beating East Bengal and NEUFC defeating Indian Army. Both semifinals and the final were originally scheduled to be held in Kolkata.
The results “fuelled immense excitement and anticipation” among fans of the two semifinalists, the statement said. “In response to overwhelming requests from supporters of both these teams, and in recognition of the traditional significance of the chosen venue as a stronghold of support for these clubs, we have decided to relocate the semifinal match between NorthEast United FC and Shillong Lajong FC to Shillong and reschedule it one day later, i.e. 26th August.”
All other fixtures remain unchanged.
