Shillong, Aug 30: Kharang SC moved up to provisional first place in Group A of the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division 2024 with a whopping 5-1 win against Lapalang SC at First Ground, Polo, here today.
The other match of the day, in Group D, resulted in 3 points for Tynring SC as they defeated Mawshbuit SC 2-0.
Balajied Lyngwah (10′, 47′) scored a brace for Kharang while there were individual goals for team mates Freelyson Tariang (68′), Labanstar Taro (72′) and Firstbornjohn Marwein (86′). Lapalang’s consolation came through Lenginthang Changloi (90’+2) in stoppage time.
Kharang now have 7 points from three games, with Mawryngkneng, who have a game in hand, in second with 4. Lapalang are at the very bottom with no points from three outings.
In Group D, Commanding Swer (35′, 75′) struck twice for Tynring’s victory over Mawshbuit.
Tynring have the same points (4) and goal difference (+1) as Lamlynti SC but the latter beat them on 23rd August and thus have head-to-head advantage.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals.
