Shillong, Dec 5: Meghalaya won gold at the 68th National School Games 2024 with first place in the U-17 boys’ football final in Jammu yesterday.
Meghalaya beat Bihar 1-0 in the title match, their eighth win in a row. Meban Masharing was named Best Player at the tournament.
The state team had also won gold in 2023.
Meghalaya’s run this year started with a 4-0 victory over NVS Jharkhand, followed by a 5-1 win against Delhi and a 6-3 result versus CISE Delhi. That was the last match where they conceded a goal as after that they were able to maintain clean sheets every time – against CBSE Bangalore (3-0), Madhya Pradesh (3-0 in the pre-quarterfinals), regional rivals Assam (3-0 in the quarterfinals), Bengal (2-0 in the semifinals) and then the triumph over Bihar in the final.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma congratulated the team on social media yesterday evening.
