Shillong, Jan 11: Shillong’s JN Stadium is likely to host two men’s international football matches in March, it was revealed today.

The first will be a friendly between India and Maldives on 19th or 20th March followed by a 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualification third round fixture between India and Bangladesh on 25th March.

Although touted as the city’s first international football matches, these would only be the first men’s games – the JN Stadium was the venue for the South Asian Games women’s football matches back in 2016.

Today the All India Football Federation’s Head of Competitions Akshay Rohatgi and Deputy General Secretary Abhishek Yadav were present at the ground along with senior Meghalaya Football Association members led by President Hamletson Dohling.

Representatives of the Asian Football Confederation will arrive in the city on 20th January to take the matter forwards.

Meanwhile, next month the JN Stadium will be the site for three Indian Super League matches, with NorthEast United FC set to play Mumbai City FC (7th February), Bengaluru FC (21st February) and East Bengal (8th March).
