Shillong, Mar 7: ASMITA, an initiative under the Khelo India Scheme, will see the organisation of sports for Meghalaya’s women and girls across seven disciplines in all 12 districts of the state.
ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestones by Inspiring Women Through Action) aims to promote sports among women by providing a platform for emerging talent. This was informed by the Deputy Director of the Sports Authority of India, Shillong.
Different districts will host different disciplines, which are open to different age groups across archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football and table tennis.
Separately, the District Sports Officer of Ri-Bhoi informed that female boxers from the district are encouraged to apply to take part in the boxing tournament to be hosted by the district on 15th March in the U-18 and U-21 categories. Entry forms are available from the DSO’s office and must be submitted by 12th March. More information can be sought by calling 9612106260 during office hours.
TSR doesn’t have information on the entry process for the other districts but we assume that it’s similar.
