Shillong, Apr 25: The U-18 Shillong Premier League is set to expand this season with the governing Shillong Sports Association inviting First Division clubs to participate as well.

As of yesterday four First Division teams have indicated an intention to play in the U-18 SPL – Mawkhar, Smit, Marbisu and Lawsohtun. Mawkhar and Lawsohtun will be playing in the First Division after gaining promotion from the Second Division last year.

Previously only the teams in the SPL had to field a junior side in the U-18 tournament. Last year there were just six participating clubs as the SPL was reduced to seven teams, with one being Meghalaya Police, which obviously didn’t have to field a side in the U-18 SPL.
