Shillong, May 16: Meghalaya ended the 7th Khelo India Youth Games 2025 in joint 29th position with a total haul of two bronze medals.
The Games ended yesterday in Bihar, with Maharashtra romping home in first place with 58 gold, 47 silver and 53 bronze medals.
Meghalaya earned their two bronze medals through Devraj Mohapatra in archery and boys’ football (pictured). Meghalaya had won the gold in the latter event in 2024 but were beaten in the semifinals this year.
Ninth-placed Manipur were the most successful North East state with 11 gold, eight silver and 11 bronze for a total of 30 medals. Assam were next in 11th position with 10 gold, five silver and 10 bronze for a total of 25.
Nagaland claimed one gold, one silver and four bronze medals, while Arunachal Pradesh netted one gold and two bronze and Mizoram one gold and one bronze. These states finished 24th, 25th and 26th respectively.
Tripura was tied with Meghalaya on two bronze medals, while Sikkim ended 31st with a solitary bronze.
Over 5,000 young athletes from all 36 states and Union territories competed for medals in 27 sports in KIYG 2025, which ran from 3rd to 15th May. Bihar played host to the majority of events and competitions were held in Patna, Rajgir, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Begusarai. New Delhi hosted the shooting, gymnastics and track cycling events.
Besides football and archery, Meghalaya also participated in athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, judo, shooting and swimming. The state sent a contingent of 44 athletes and 14 officials for the Games.
