Shillong, Jun 18: Nongjri Presbyterian Secondary School won the U-17 girls’ and U-17 boys’ titles of the District Level Inter-School Subroto Cup Football Tournament 2025 for Ri-Bhoi.
Mawtneng Upper Primary and Secondary School, meanwhile, were the champions of the U-15 boys’ category.
In the girls’ final, Nongjri Presbyterian faced off against Christian Higher Secondary School and, in an intense contest, came away with a 1-0 victory.
The U-15 boys’ final also finished 1-0, with Mawtneng beating Mynken Christian HSS.
The Nongjri Presbyterian U-17 boys took on Nehru Memorial HSS and the highly competitive title match saw regular time finish 1-1. The victors were thus decided by a penalty shootout where Nongjri Presbyterian held their nerve to win.
The closing ceremony was graced by the Assistant Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, K Passah, president of the Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association RB Shadap, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar and other dignitaries.
Trophies and individual prizes were distributed to both the winners and runners-up teams and special awards were also handed out for outstanding individual performances.
The winning teams from this tournament will represent Ri-Bhoi at the upcoming State Level Inter School Subroto Cup to be held in Shillong. Last year, all three state titles were won by schools from Ri-Bhoi and Nongjri Presbyterian, then the U-15 boys’ champions, went on to win the national Subroto Cup title in New Delhi, while Mynken Christian were runners-up in the national U-17 boys’ competition.
