Shillong, Aug 26: Smit celebrated an immense 9-1 win against Umphyrnai in Group B of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2025 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.
This was the biggest margin of victory by any team not just in this year’s Second Division but across the various SSA leagues – Third Division, Fourth Division and Shillong Premier League – too.
Three Smit players scored braces – Samlanghaki Warlarpih (15′, 16′), Nathaniel Kharbyngngar (54′, 59′) and Bhakupar Rynjah (66′, 84′). Pynshngainborlang Nongrum (68′) and Banmonbha Mawlong (80′) scored one each and there was also an own goal in the 46th minute.
Surprisingly, it was actually Umphyrnai who scored the first goal of the match – through Teibok Nongrum in the 10th minute.
Umphyrnai lost their season opener to Laitkyrhong 2-1 on 20th August, while Smit drew 1-1 with Nongmensong on 23rd August.
Smit now lead the group with 4 points, while Umphyrnai are at the bottom.
