Shillong, Sep 2: The Meghalaya team will depart for West Bengal on Wednesday to take part in the Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2025-26.

Meghalaya have been drawn in Group D along with Railways, Sikkim and hosts West Bengal.

Meghalaya did not participate last year, finished last in their group in 2023-24 and skipped the tournament in 2022-23 as well. They are said to be determined to make an impact this time around.

The 20-member state squad, selected by the Meghalaya Football Association, combines experience and newer faces.

An eye-catching inclusion is goalkeeper Ribansi Jamu, who was recently part of the India squad that qualified for the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup, though she didn’t get any game time, instead supporting the team from the bench.

More experienced names like Makrisha Songthiang, Nisilia Majaw and youngsters Eiladki Ksoo and Inrilaidor Khongthaw round out the state team.

Meghalaya will first play West Bengal on 6th September, followed by Sikkim on 8th September and Railways on 10th September.
