Shillong, Sep 22: Umphrup battled from a goal down to beat Umphyrnai and thus save themselves from relegation in the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2025 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Shemjingmut Kharmyndai (14′) struck first for Umphyrnai but Umphrup bounced back through Winjester Nongbri (37′) and Damanglang Kharbangar (65′).
Relegation from the Second Division this year has been worked out differently. This time the bottom team from each of the three groups went into a mini relegation league where they played each other once. The bottom two from here will drop down into next season’s Third Division.
Umpling had lost to Umphyrnai 2-1 and Umphrup 4-2 before today and were already confirmed as one of the clubs to be relegated. And Umphyrnai’s loss today means that they have also been knocked down into the Third Division.
