Shillong, Oct 20: The 42nd Meghalaya State Table Tennis Championship concluded in Tura on Saturday with Suranjit Dey and Tanushree Dasgupta (file photos left and right) the men’s and women’s singles champions.
The four-day tournament was hosted for a fifth time by the Tura Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the Meghalaya Table Tennis Association. This tournament also aided in the selection of state teams for the National Games and National School Games.
Around 100 players from around the state took part in singles events under different age categories.
Tanushree faced friend and rival Camelia Diengdoh in the women’s singles final and they bagged gold and silver respectively. Anwesha Choudhury took the bronze.
In the men’s event, Suranjit claimed the gold, Sandeep Kumar silver and Prithvi Dey bronze.
The tournament’s young talents were acknowledged with special awards: Saachi Mizar (U-11 girls gold medallist) was named the Most Promising Girl Player, while Shivansh Pariyar (U-11 boys gold medallist) received the Most Promising Boy Player award.
Dignitaries on the last day included Selsella MLA Arbinstone B Marak along with other officials.
