Shillong, Nov 8: Newly-formed Meghalaya Media United SC got off to a flying start in the 1st MLA Trophy Deuce Tournament, beating Momentum by two wickets yesterday.

Player of the Match Deepak Chettri and Amit Meinam Singh were the star performers, while Jied Lyngdoh shone with the ball for Momentum, picking up four wickets.

Featuring in their first tournament, Meghalaya Media Utd were made to field first under damp conditions, which appeared to favour their bowlers.

Momentum, the runners-up in the Shillong Cricket League Third Division, lost three wickets within the first 4 overs after a fiery opening bowling spell by Rakrik Marak and Dino Renthlei.

However, they recovered after an impressive partnership between Asif Ali (30) and Ankit (24). The duo steadied the ship to take their team towards what looked to be a respective total. But Amit took three wickets while Deepak picked up two before Momentum were bundled out for 101 in 17.5 overs.

Chasing 102, Meghalaya Media Utd got off to an explosive start with Deepak (30) and Bunny Sharma smashing boundaries at will. By the sixth over, the team had scored 60 runs and looked set for a comfortable victory. However, there was a middle order collapse and the tide slowly turned in Momentum’s favour.

MMU required seven runs when the eighth wicket fell, but Rakrik and Thunga continued rotating the strike to take their team to victory.
