Shillong, Dec 5: Nineteen different karatekas brought home 20 medals from the 4th All India Inter-Zonal Karate Championship 2025, which was held in New Delhi earlier this week.
Twenty-seven karatekas under the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) were selected to represent North East Zone at the 1st to 2nd December championship.
Barisha Kharbani was the only gold medallist from Meghalaya, coming first in women’s individual kumite (-61kg). Paul Danny Kharmudai won two medals – a silver in men’s individual kumite (-60kg) and bronze in men’s individual kata.
There were four other silver medallists – Ialamphang Kharkongor, Savio Bakynsai Majaw, Fadrik Wanniang and Phidaiakashisha Lyngdoh – along with 12 other bronze medallists.
The Meghalaya contingent, which has brought back so much pride and glory for the state, was accompanied by the experienced Donboklang Lyngdoh and Mingson Rymbai.
