Shillong, Jan 7: Nongkseh began 2026 with a 2–1 victory over Gangtok Himalayan SC in the 11th All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup International Football Tournament at Jorethang, Sikkim, today.
Playing their first-ever match away from Meghalaya, Nongkseh carried forward their winning momentum from Shillong to win far from home; Nongkseh were unbeaten throughout the local football season, coming out on top of the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division and Champions Cup.
Today Nongkseh took the lead in the 10th minute through Shano Tariang, who scored from an assist by Khrawkupar Jana. The advantage was doubled just before half time when Kynsaibor Lhuid produced a fine solo effort from the left flank in stoppage time.
The second half saw Nongkseh continue to control the game but they fell short in converting further chances. Gangtok Himalayan scored a late consolation goal but Nongkseh remained disciplined to secure the win at the final whistle.
Kynsaibor (pictured centre) was named Player of the Match.
Nongkseh are being captained by Hardy Cliff Nongbri, with Rogester Basaiawmoit as coach and Daniel Thangkhiew, the club’s President, as manager.
The club will face Eastern Railway in the pre-quarterfinals on Sunday.
