Shillong, Jan 29: The Dorbar Shnong Raid Sawkur Nongkseh on Wednesday felicitated the players and officials of the Nongkseh SC in recognition of their recent victory at the 11th Chief Minister’s International Gold Cup 2026 held in Jorethang, Sikkim.
The celebration highlighted a successful period for the club, which captured three major titles – the First Division, Champions Cup (both organised by the Shillong Sports Association) and the Sikkim tournament. They won all three without being defeated even once.
Addressing the gathering, club President Daniel Thangkhiew attributed the team’s achievements to disciplined training under coach Richardson Nongneng and the unwavering commitment of the players.
He noted that several footballers who previously played for larger clubs opted to represent Nongkseh in the First Division out of sheer passion for football and a shared determination to strengthen the club rather than for monetary benefits.
Praising the club’s accomplishment, Meghalaya Football Association President Hamletson Dohling and SSA President Banteidor Lyngdoh MLA said Nongkseh’s dedication and structured leadership have played a key role in its rise and the latest victory has brought significant pride and honour to Meghalaya.
Mylliem MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh expressed happiness over the triumph, particularly noting the strong presence of local Khasi youths in the squad. Commending Thangkhiew’s leadership, he voiced optimism that the club would continue to scale greater heights and potentially earn recognition beyond the country.
Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, meanwhile, observed that athletes and their families once faced discouragement due to limited employment prospects but successful athletes now have a formal pathway to government jobs.
