Shillong, Mar 23: Sputnik Spartan and Rangkynsai SC were victorious in their respective matches of the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, here today.

While Sputnik Spartan defeated Shillong Sixers by six wickets in Group B, Rangkynsai won a rain-affected Group C game by 82 runs against United XI.

Shillong Sixers could only put up 106/6 in 20 overs after being made to bat first, with Kevin Christopher hitting a run-a-ball 54, which was more than half of his team’s runs. Supriyo Chanda was equally impressive with the ball, claiming 4/12 in 4 overs.

Sputnik Spartan then required just 17.5 overs to reach 107/4. Hameki Susngi (30 in 30) and Uttam Chanda (28 not out in 28) were the top scorers, while Lakhan Singh took 3/12 in 4 overs. Supriyo was named Player of the Match.

In the other game, United XI won the toss and fielded first. Rangkynsai enjoyed batting conditions and hammered 217/6 in 20 overs. Ram Gurung made 50* from 35 deliveries and Kishan Lyngdoh 45 from 22. Bharat Gurung managed 2/50 in 4 overs.

Only 11.3 overs were possible in United XI’s innings and at that stage they were in a precarious position at 63/6. Ganeshstar Syiem had made 16 from 17 balls and Bharat 13 from 25. Ram bagged 2/7 in 2 overs and he was named Player of the Match as Rangkynsai won by 82 runs according to the DLS Method.
