Shillong, Apr 8: The Meghalaya Athletics Association held a send-off yesterday at the Sports Authority of India Centre here for a contingent of seven athletes who will represent the state at the Indian Athletics Series – 3 in New Delhi on Saturday.
The event will be organised by the Athletics Federation of India at Delhi’s JN Stadium.
Five athletes have registered in the senior category – Donbok Shabong (100m, 200m), Kimkim Ch Momin (100m, 200m), Marshal Wanniang (1000m), Balasiewdor Pathaw (1000m) and Marqueenless Ramsiej (10000m). Two others are in the U-20 category – Yiarmanwill Rymbai (200m) and Lastly Suchiang (400m).
All these athletes are undergoing training under the state athletics team’s preparation for the National Games 2027, which will be held in Meghalaya.
Three officials are also accompanying the Meghalaya contingent to Delhi – EMH Passah (MAA Senior Vice-President), Finely L Pariat (MAA General Secretary) and Amarveer Singh (national coach and coach of the Meghalaya National Games athletics team).
The MAA wished the team all the very best for the event, with the seniors taking part at this level for the first time. Others present during the send-off were MAA Joint Secretary Pleasantly Synnah, MAA Treasurer Pynhun Rapthap and Olympian and Asian Games medallist Prachi Chaudhury, who is currently training in Shillong for the 2026 Asian Games to be held in Japan.
