Shillong, May 6: India went down 3-0 to Japan in their AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Group B match in Suzhou, China, on Tuesday.
After a goalless first half, India conceded just before the hour mark through Yumi Hayashi (59’) and a double strike from Yuzuha Ikeda (76’, 81’) saw the four-time champions secure their second win in the group.
Meghalaya’s Alisha Lyngdoh (pictured) came on as a second half substitute, having been used to replace Ritu Badaik in the 65th minute. Bonifilia Shullai did not get a look-in this match.
The result takes Japan to the top of Group B with 6 points from two matches.
India remain without a point from their opening two games, having lost to Australia on Saturday, and are bottom of the group after Lebanon held Australia to a 1-1 draw earlier in the day.
The Young Tigresses, however, remain alive in the tournament and a win in the last group stage game against Lebanon on Friday could potentially be enough to seal a quarterfinal berth as one of the best third-placed teams.
Kick-off for India’s last group game will be at 1PM India time.
