Shillong, Jan 11: Meghalaya were beaten by Bihar by 191 runs in their U-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy plate group match at the MCA Cricket Ground here today.
Resuming play on the third day on 219/8 in their second innings, Bihar were bowled out for 243. That set Meghalaya a target of 295 to win. Bihar had made 151 in their first innings, with Meghalaya replying with 100.
Kartik Pawar wrapped up the last two wickets to finish with figures of 6/81. Abhishek Kumar had scored almost all of Bihar’s 24 runs today, finishing on 67 not out.
Batting was again difficult for the hosts and they were dismissed for 103. P Rohit top-scored with 30, while captain Akash Kumar contributed 22 lower down the order.
Meghalaya thus bowed out of the tournament with only one win from their eight games, but with plenty of experience that should stand them in good stead for the future.
Some highlights from their season include Rohit Shah’s double century against Sikkim. Pawar is also the tournament’s fourth-highest wicket-taker with 46 for the season. Akash is eighth overall with 39 scalps.
