Shillong, Nov 8: Shillong Lajong are half a step away from a fourth Shillong Premier League title after thrashing Langsning 5-0 at the JN Stadium here today.
Lajong are now on 24 points, three ahead of Rangdajied United, and could win the title with just a draw against Ryntih next week.
In the first leg Lajong had defeated Langsning 2-0 on 7th September.
Today Phrangki Buam scored for Lajong in the 29th minute and 46th minutes. An own goal followed in the 73rd before Parvaj Bhuiya added another in the 79th. Buam then got his hat-trick in stoppage time.
A cross through the legs of Langsning’s Batskhem Tariang provided Buam with the opportunity to score and he negotiated a tricky bounce to put his side into the lead. He then went on to score the fastest goal of a second half when he tapped home a Kynsailang Khongsit cross seconds after the restart.
Langsning’s defence then became frayed and tattered as they pressed high for a goal and Lajong were dangerous on the counterattack. SLFC scored their third via an own goal and Bhuiya sprinted up the pitch in a swift move to score the fourth single-handedly.
Lajong then won a penalty in stoppage time and Buam stepped up to take it. He fired the shot straight to Frolicson Dkhar’s gloves, but the ball rebounded for Buam to head it in for his hat-trick and 10th goal of the season.
Tomorrow Nangkiew Irat are scheduled to face Nongrim Hills at 2:45PM. It will be Nongrim’s last match of the season.
