Shillong, Jan 16: NorthEast United smashed past Lumshyiap 12-0 in their Group A clash of the ongoing U-16 Republic Cup here on Tuesday with Emboklang Nongkhlaw and Jehova Lalthangsanga both recording hat-tricks. The other match of the day saw Langsning and Sohra draw 1-1 in Group B.
Nongkhlaw scored in the 9th, 21st, 28th and 61st minutes as NorthEast United were completely dominant, while Lalthangsanga pumped in goals in the 25th, 46th and 51st minutes. Phibankhraw Nongkhlaw also registered a brace (23′, 26′) while Moses Zothanpuia (33′), Lalanpuia Sailo (44′) and Anupam Borgohain (64′) all picked up a goal apiece.
In the other match Langsning took the lead in the 22nd minute through Samchaphrang Lato before Mebanshan Laloo cancelled that out for Sohra in the 41st.
Yesterday Rympei came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Upper Shillong in Group B, while Little Star ran riot against Umroh in Group A, finishing as 10-0 victors with Beki Nongrang claiming a double hat-trick of six goals.
NorthEast United are at the top of Group A with 7 points, tied with Little Star, but ahead on goal difference. In Group B Langsning and Upper Shillong both have 5 points, but the latter have the better goal difference.
