Shillong, Oct 7: Despite chasing a meagre target of 190, Meghalaya lost by 30 runs to Nagaland after a disappointing performance with the bat in their second match of the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy one-day tournament in Bhubaneshwar today.
Meghalaya were bolstered by the bowling performance of Abhishek, who took 6/37 in nine overs for his state, and Nagaland (who had won the toss and chosen to bat first) were dismissed for 189 in 40 overs. Swastic Chettri also saw success with the ball, taking 3/39.
However, Meghalaya then struggled with the bat. The openers fell quickly and it was only when a 99-run partnership was created between Md Ashif Khan (47) and Raghav Kapur (71) that it looked like the team were going to make it across the line.
Ashif’s wicket, though, led to a complete collapse and Meghalaya went from 109/2 to 159 all out in 47.1 overs. No one other than Ashif and Kapur managed to get into double figures.
Meghalaya will next play Arunachal Pradesh on 10th October.
