Shillong, Mar 9: United Umsning Sports Academy pulled off a sensational come-from-behind win in the first semifinal of Mawten SC’s 5th Invitation Football Tournament.
UUSA beat Lamlongtei 5-3 to reach the final.
Lamlongtei pulled out a two-goal lead in the first half, thanks to strikes from Bansharai Sunn (26′) and Hillford Lyngkhoi (42′), but UUSA came out all guns blazing in the second half.
The UUSA front line showed plenty of speed and aggression and broke the defence of Lamlongtei on several occasions.
Ronald Lyngdoh Nonglait got UUSA’s first goal in the 53rd minute, followed by substitute and man-of-the-match Pynshai Surong in the 64th.
A Donborlang Nongkynrih brace in the 65th and 74th minutes then firmly swung things around for UUSA and Donlad Diengdoh made doubly sure of victory with an 80th minute goal.
Lamlongtei didn’t give up the fight, however, and clawed a goal back in the 86th minute via Oversharp Iawphniaw, but there was no way back for his side in the exciting last-four contest.
