Shillong, Oct 2: After a year and a half without regular football because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Shillong Sports Association’s 2021 season began today with the start of the U-20 Fourth Division.
The opening match of the season was played between Pomlakrai and Mawnianglah in Group A at Second Ground, Polo.
The 70-minute match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Havertson Thawmuit scored the opener for Mawnianglah in the 15th minute but this was cancelled out by Phyrnaiboklang Sohtun’s goal in the 50th.
The Fourth Division is the lowest rung in the SSA’s football pyramid. There are 15 participating teams in all – Groups A, B and D have four teams each, with Group C having just three. The full schedule of group fixtures was released by the SSA last week.
