Shillong, Oct 12: The seventh conclave of the North East Cricket Development Committee, which is a joint coordinating body of six North East states, was held at Sovima, near Dimapur, on 8th October.
The six participating states are Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, hosts Nagaland and Sikkim. The NECDC was formed in 2016 at the initiative of the then Honorary Secretary of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, Naba Bhattacharjee, and the Chief Minister of Nagaland and former President of the Nagaland Cricket Association, Neiphiu Rio. The objective was to form a united approach for full membership of the BCCI (which was achieved in 2018) and coordinate other common cricketing issues with the board.
The seventh conclave was chaired by Rio, the convenor, and Bhattacharjee, the co-convenor.
Meghalaya was represented by MCA Vice-President Dipul Ryntathiang and MCA founder member Rayonald Kharkamni.
The meeting adopted resolutions on matters related to uniform funding, particularly infrastructure development grants from the BCCI, maintaining total transparency and accountability in matters of accounts and utilisation of funds, better communication between the six states and the BCCI, promotion of grassroots cricket to encourage indigenous young potential and improving cricket-related activities (like regular tournaments) among the NECDC states to ensure better understanding and bonding among them.
The delegates also attended the inaugural function of the NCA’s third cricket ground at Sovima.
