Shillong, Feb 19: United XI CC reached the final of the Shillong Cricket Association’s Super Division in a monumental match that went to a super over.
The first semifinal saw New Friends Union taking United XI today, with the latter winning the toss and choosing to bat first.
Yogesh Tiwari and Jason Lamare batted brilliantly, scoring 59 runs each, to get United XI to 195/7 in 40 overs. Neetesh Sharma (2/24) and Bharat Gurung (2/34) took a brace of wickets each.
In the thrilling chase, NFU were dismissed off the last ball for 195, putting both teams level. Asif Khan top-scored with 63 and Kevin Christopher contributed a handy 33. Man-of-the-match Lamare here claimed 2/26 with the ball for a fine all-round performance.
The match, however, wasn’t done as a super over was required to give us a winner.
NFU batted first. It isn’t clear from what information was provided by the SCA who bowled the over, but whoever it was from United XI did an excellent job as their opponents were restricted to 4/1. United then managed to knock off the required runs in just four balls to claim a place in the title match.
The second semifinal will be between Royal CC and Nongmynsong CC tomorrow.
