Shillong, Jun 2: North Garo Hills scripted history by winning the title of Team Champions at the State Level Chief Minister’s Inter School Athletics Meet, which concluded here today.
Thanks to strong results in the field events, NGH finished with 11 gold medals, narrowly beating giants East Khasi Hills, who had 10. Ri-Bhoi were third with eight gold.
The three-day meet took place at the Sports Authority of India Centre on the NEHU campus. There were a total of 764 athletes from the 12 districts of Meghalaya.
NGH were also the boys’ champions, having won eight gold, four silver and three bronze, while EKH were runners-up.
In the girls’ division, West Khasi Hills (five gold, one silver, one bronze) were the champions, with Ri-Bhoi second.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to social media to congratulate the top three districts.
”Proud of the skills, enthusiasm and determination of all our participants. Positive that these competitions will go a long way in shaping their lives,” he said.
The chief guest at the closing ceremony was Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem in the presence of Meghalaya State Olympic Association Working President John F Kharshiing, MSOA General Secretary Finely L Pariat, Assistant Director of Sports & Youth Affairs PB War Nongbri and others.

U-14 girls – Rosy Sana (East Jaintia Hills)
U-14 boys – Henry Yoga A Sangma (North Garo Hills)
U-16 girls – Phibakmen Rynghang (Ri-Bhoi)
U-16 boys – Anilson Ch Marak (South Garo Hills)
U-18 girls – Ibaihun Kurbah (Eastern West Khasi Hills)
U-18 boys – Donbok Shabong (East Khasi Hills)
